Carlos Alberto Martins Katchas

Carlos Alberto Martins, known as Katchas, is the founder and lead figure of the iconic Cabo Verdean band Bulimundo, which has played a pivotal role in the revival and internationalization of Funaná music since its establishment in 1978. Under his leadership, Bulimundo transformed the genre from a marginalized musical form into a symbol of national pride and cultural identity, particularly following Cabo Verde's independence. Their electrifying sound, characterized by the fusion of traditional instruments like the ferrinho and diatonic accordion with modern influences, has resonated with audiences both locally and globally.
