
Carlos Steer Lafont
Carlos Steer Lafont was a young Peruvian who gained infamy for assassinating the director of El Comercio, Antonio Miró Quesada, along with his wife, María Laos, on May 15, 1935. Born on March 20, 1915, he was involved in political activism as a member of the Federación Aprista Juvenil (FAJ). Motivated by a desire for revenge against the political establishment, Steer meticulously planned the attack and executed it in a public setting, which sent shockwaves through Lima. He was later convicted and sentenced to 25 years in prison but was released after a period of time, ultimately living a quiet life until his death in 1999.
