Carmelita Torres

Carmelita Torres was a young Mexican woman from Ciudad Juárez who became a symbol of resistance in January 1917 when she led a protest against the humiliating practice of chemical baths imposed on Mexican migrants crossing into El Paso, Texas, to work as domestic servants.
