Cassiodorus was a Roman statesman and scholar from the 6th century, best known for his writings on history and philosophy. His accounts provide valuable insight into the social and environmental conditions of his time, particularly during the devastating events of the Plague of Justinian and the ensuing famines, which greatly affected the Roman Empire.
