Catalina Carrasco

Catalina Carrasco, known artistically as Catita de Panamá, was a pivotal figure in Panamanian folk music. Born in La Chorrera in 1919, she emerged as one of the first prominent female interpreters of the genre during a time when the artistic scene was largely male-dominated. Her contributions to the preservation and dissemination of Panamanian cultural expressions, particularly through her work with the ensemble Viva Panamá, have solidified her legacy as a leader in the folclore movement. Despite a tragic accident that ended her career in 1984, her influence continues to inspire new generations of artists.
