Cayetano Francos y Monroy

Cayetano Francos y Monroy served as the fourth archbishop of Guatemala and played a significant role during a pivotal period in the country's ecclesiastical history, particularly in the aftermath of the 1773 earthquake that necessitated the relocation of the capital. His leadership facilitated the transfer of ecclesiastical institutions to the new city and was instrumental in the construction of the new Cathedral, which features a complex system of crypts that reflect the basilical layout above.
