Chaiyam Phawan is a Member of Parliament (MP) representing Bangkok for the Thai Progressive Party. He recently made headlines after voluntarily turning himself in to the police in Chiang Mai regarding allegations of assaulting a Taiwanese tourist. Following his surrender, the Secretary-General of the House of Representatives announced that the request to arrest him would be withdrawn, as he is still recognized as an MP while awaiting a decision from the prosecutor on whether charges will be filed.
