Charara

Charara is a 21-year-old transgender woman living in Tunis, who has faced significant challenges and dangers due to her gender identity. Despite her youth, she has endured multiple arrests and periods of imprisonment, including a recent incident in December 2024 when she was deceived by a police officer posing as a client. Growing up in a violent household and facing severe abuse from her family, Charara escaped at the age of 14 and has since navigated life on the streets, often resorting to sex work to survive. Her experiences highlight the systemic discrimination and legal persecution faced by LGBTQ+ individuals in Tunisia.
