Charles Ruelens was a secretary of a committee of historians and specialists who played a crucial role in rediscovering the lost works of Pierre Paul Rubens in Grasse. His efforts in 1881 led to the confirmation of the presence of three significant paintings by Rubens in the Cathédrale Notre-Dame-du-Puy, which had been hanging there since 1827.
