Cheng Yen

Cheng Yen is a Taiwanese Buddhist nun and the founder of the Tzu Chi Charity Foundation, established in 1966 in Hualien County. Under her leadership, Tzu Chi has grown into a prominent global non-profit organization, renowned for its humanitarian efforts in disaster relief, medical aid, education, and environmental conservation. Cheng Yen's vision emphasizes compassion and community service, which has inspired countless volunteers and contributed to Tzu Chi's extensive reach across 68 countries worldwide.
