Chiune Sugihara, also known as Sempo Sugihara, was a Japanese diplomat who, during World War II, issued thousands of transit visas to Jewish refugees fleeing the Holocaust, defying orders from the Japanese government. His courageous actions allowed many to escape persecution and have earned him recognition as a humanitarian hero.
