Christian Bethancourt is a Panamanian professional baseball catcher known for his versatility on the field. Born on September 2, 1991, he made his Major League Baseball debut in 2013 with the Atlanta Braves. Over his career, he has played for several teams including the San Diego Padres, Oakland Athletics, Tampa Bay Rays, Miami Marlins, and Chicago Cubs. Throughout the 2024 season, he played for both Miami and Chicago, achieving a batting average of .209 with five home runs and 22 RBIs in 62 games. Recently, he was in the news as he was assigned to the minor leagues by the Toronto Blue Jays after failing to secure a spot on the major league roster during spring training.
