Claudio de Mello Tavares

Claudio de Mello Tavares is a Brazilian jurist and the vice-president and corregedor of the Tribunal Regional Eleitoral do Rio de Janeiro (TRE-RJ). He has been instrumental in advancing electoral reforms and ensuring the constitutional rights of citizens, particularly focusing on the participation of marginalized groups in the democratic process. Recently, he was in the news for launching the project 'Democracia Além das Grades,' aimed at enabling provisional prisoners and detained adolescents to exercise their right to vote in the upcoming 2026 elections.
