Constantin I. Parhon
Constantin I. Parhon (1874–1969) was a renowned Romanian physician, biologist, and university professor, recognized as a pioneer in the field of geriatrics. He founded the Geriatrics Institute in Bucharest in 1952, where he and his protégé, Ana Aslan, researched the aging process and treatments aimed at extending human lifespan. Parhon famously declared that aging was a disease that could be treated, contributing significantly to the understanding of longevity in the mid-20th century. He also served as the President of the Presidium of the Great National Assembly from 1947 to 1952, a largely symbolic role akin to that of a head of state.
