Cornelis Chastelein

Cornelis Chastelein was a Dutch official of the Vereenigde Oostindische Compagnie (VOC) who became a landowner in Depok in the late 17th century. He is known for bringing hundreds of slaves to work on agricultural projects in the area, where he aimed to establish a model for colonial community management. His legacy includes the establishment of the Kaoem Depok community, which emerged from the descendants of his freed slaves.
