Donald Crowhurst was a British businessman and amateur sailor whose tragic fate became infamous during the 1968 Golden Globe Race. As his boat began to take on water, he fabricated false position reports in an attempt to cover up his dire situation, ultimately leading to his disappearance and presumed suicide, a story that has since inspired films and discussions about the psychological pressures of solo sailing.
