D. Udhayakumar is a professor at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati's design department, known for designing the official symbol for the Indian rupee. Recently, he has been in the news regarding political controversies surrounding the use of the rupee symbol in Tamil Nadu's state budget, where the state government replaced it with the Tamil letter 'roo'.
