Daniel Antonio Fernández Ávalos is a 36-year-old former special agent and sub-inspector who served as the director of the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) of the National Anti-Drug Secretariat (Senad) in Paraguay since 2019. He was instrumental in leading the high-profile A Ultranza Py investigation, which resulted in the imprisonment of notorious drug trafficker Miguel Ángel Insfrán Galeano, also known as Tío Rico, and the issuance of an international arrest warrant for Sebastián Enrique Marset Cabrera, alias Omelet. Fernández gained recognition for his work and was even honored by the U.S. Embassy in Paraguay for his contributions to anti-drug efforts. However, he recently faced serious allegations from Marset, which led to his dismissal following a failed polygraph test.
