Daniel Newey

Daniel Newey, a British national, was arrested in June 2022 at Aizawl's Lengpui airport in Mizoram, India, for carrying a live bullet in his bag. His arrest was initially viewed as a minor offense, but it gained significant attention after Mizoram's Chief Minister Lalduhoma revealed that foreign mercenaries, including ex-special forces members from the UK and the US, have been using the state as a transit point to enter Myanmar and provide arms training to insurgent groups. Newey served six months in jail before being released in February 2023.
