Dave Duerson was a professional American football player who played as a safety in the NFL, primarily for the Chicago Bears, with whom he won Super Bowl XX. After his retirement, Duerson became a successful businessman but struggled with mental health issues believed to be linked to chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), which was posthumously diagnosed after he died by suicide in 2011. His tragic death and subsequent diagnosis brought significant attention to the dangers of head injuries in football.
