David George Alexander McLean was a prominent Canadian businessman and lawyer, born on June 25, 1938, in Calgary, Alberta. He grew up above a Canadian National Railways station, which shaped his future in the railway industry. McLean became the chair of Canadian National during its privatization, overseeing the largest initial public offering in Canadian history in 1995. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish The McLean Group, which developed thousands of condominiums and played a key role in the growth of Vancouver's film industry through the creation of Vancouver Film Studios. He was also actively involved in various charitable and educational initiatives, serving as chair of the board of governors at the University of British Columbia.
