Deke Slayton

Deke Slayton was an American astronaut and one of the original Mercury Seven space pilots. After being grounded due to a heart condition, he eventually flew on the Apollo-Soyuz mission, becoming a symbol of perseverance and collaboration in space exploration. His participation in this historic mission, which involved the first docking of American and Soviet spacecraft, represented a significant thaw in Cold War tensions and a step toward international cooperation in space.
