
Deng Nan-jung
Deng Nan-jung was a prominent Taiwanese democracy advocate and the founder of the political magazine Freedom Era Weekly, which he created to champion freedom of expression. He is best known for his act of self-immolation on April 7, 1989, in protest against authoritarianism, following the issuance of an arrest warrant for his refusal to appear in court on insurrection charges. His dedication to democratic principles and human rights has left a lasting legacy in Taiwan.
