Denis Galloway
Denis Galloway (1878 - 1957) was a British photographer and artist known for his significant contributions to the ethnographic documentation of rural life in Transylvania. He moved to Romania in 1926, where he collaborated with Romulus Vuia at the Transylvanian Ethnographic Museum, capturing the essence of local traditions and customs through his photography. Galloway's work is celebrated for its artistic value as well as its scientific importance, as it provides insight into the cultural heritage of the region. His photographs, including one depicting peasants from Lunca Cernii mimicking a scene from Trajan's Column, sparked discussions about the connections between modern Romanians and their Dacian ancestors. Galloway returned to Britain in 1950, leaving behind a legacy of invaluable photographic records.
