Dennis Chapawo

Dennis Chapawo is the Director General of Immigration and Citizenship Services in Malawi. He has recently come under scrutiny following a report by the Office of the Ombudsman that exposed widespread corruption and inefficiencies within the department he oversees. The Ombudsman, Grace Malera, highlighted how the immigration system had become plagued by bribery and political interference, undermining fair access to services. In response to the report, Chapawo accepted the recommendations for reform and committed to implementing changes aimed at restoring integrity and efficiency in the department, which has faced significant challenges such as outdated laws and inadequate resources.
