Deshabandu Tennakoon is the former Chief of Police of Sri Lanka, who gained notoriety following a controversial appointment in November 2023. His tenure was marred by serious allegations, including the torture of a detainee, for which he was ordered to pay damages. Tennakoon became the subject of a manhunt after a court issued an arrest warrant connected to the death of a police officer during a botched drug raid he allegedly ordered. The operation resulted in a deadly confrontation between police units, prompting authorities to seek his capture after he went into hiding.
