
Dimitrie Gerota
Dimitrie Gerota was a pioneering Romanian physician born on July 17, 1867, in Craiova. He graduated from the University of Bucharest's Faculty of Medicine and became known as Romania's first radiologist, introducing the first radiographs in the country in 1898. Gerota significantly contributed to medical education as a professor of anatomy at the National University of Fine Arts in Bucharest, where he mentored the famous sculptor Constantin Brâncuși. He is also recognized for developing the 'Gerota method' for injecting lymphatic vessels and conducting important research on the anatomy of the bladder and appendix. Gerota passed away on March 3, 1939, but his legacy continues through the hospital named in his honor.
