Diocleciano

Diocleciano

historical figure Unknown

Diocleciano, also known as Emperor Diocletian, ruled the Roman Empire from 284 to 305 AD. He is best remembered for his extensive reforms that aimed to stabilize the empire, including the introduction of the Edict of Maximum Prices in 301 AD, which attempted to curb inflation by setting price ceilings on various goods. However, this measure ultimately led to economic decline, the collapse of formal trade, and the rise of black markets, illustrating the pitfalls of price controls. Diocletian's reign marked a significant period in Roman history, as he also instituted the Tetrarchy, dividing the empire into four regions governed by co-emperors.
