Diogenes of Sinope
Diogenes of Sinope, a contemporary of Antisthenes, is widely recognized as one of the most famous figures of ancient Greek philosophy and a central character in the Cynic movement. Born in Sinope around 412 or 404 BCE, he is best known for his ascetic lifestyle and his belief that virtue was better revealed in action than in theory. Diogenes lived in a large ceramic jar and famously wandered Athens with a lantern in daylight, claiming to be searching for an honest man. His provocative behavior and sharp wit made him a symbol of philosophical skepticism and critique of social conventions.
