Dmitry Basko

Dmitry Basko is a 60-year-old programmer from Minsk, Belarus, who was sentenced to nine years in prison for treason against the state. Before his arrest, he was a qualified programmer and occasionally taught programming at the Belarusian State University. His employment opportunities diminished as he fell out of favor with the university and many IT companies left Belarus. Basko chose not to leave the country to care for his elderly mother, who passed away during the investigation. He was arrested on January 9, 2024, and faced harsh conditions while detained.
