Dorothy Darnell

Dorothy Darnell was an Englishwoman and the founder of the first Jane Austen Society in 1940, motivated by her desire to preserve the cottage in Chawton, Hampshire, where Austen lived. Her efforts sparked a global movement, leading to the establishment of numerous Austen societies around the world.
