Duccio di Buoninsegna was a seminal Italian painter from Siena, active in the late 13th and early 14th centuries, who is credited with transforming the Sienese School of painting by infusing the Gothic tradition with new ideas about expressionism and narrative, exemplified in his masterpiece, the Maestà.
