Dumitru Văsescu

Dumitru Văsescu, born in 1859 in Iași, was a pioneering Romanian engineer and inventor, recognized as the first Romanian to create a self-propelled vehicle. After studying mechanical engineering in Paris, he constructed a steam-powered automobile that amazed onlookers with its design and functionality. Văsescu's innovative work laid the groundwork for Romania's automotive industry, although he did not live to see his dream of mass production realized.
