Dzidra Karamiševa

Dzidra Karamiševa, affectionately known as "Cālis," is a legendary figure in Latvian basketball, renowned for her outstanding contributions to the sport. Born in Smiltene and nurtured in Rīga, she excelled in various sports before fully committing to basketball in 1946. Under the guidance of coach Arvīds Pētersons, she quickly rose to prominence, becoming a key player for the Latvian national team and the TTT women's basketball club. Karamiševa captained her team to multiple European championships and was celebrated for her remarkable skills, including her signature two-handed jump shot and defensive prowess. Her ability to read the game and inspire her teammates made her a respected leader on and off the court.
