He is best known for his tenure with the Milwaukee and Atlanta Braves, where he became the first player in MLB history to hit 500 home runs while playing exclusively as a third baseman. Mathews was a 12-time All-Star and a key contributor to the Braves' success, including their 1957 World Series championship. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1978, solidifying his legacy as one of the greatest players in the sport's history.
