Edimar De Souza Do Santos was a 37-year-old soybean producer based in the Paso Itá colony of Ybyrarobaná, Canindeyú, Paraguay. He was involved in controversial agricultural practices, often leasing large tracts of land from indigenous communities, which led to tensions and conflicts with local inhabitants and other farmers. Due to his assertive approach to land acquisition and his use of armed protection, he had faced multiple legal and social challenges, drawing the attention of human rights organizations. His life was tragically cut short when he was shot and killed in a targeted attack while inspecting his soybean harvest.
