Eduardo Abaroa

Eduardo Abaroa is a revered Bolivian national hero, celebrated for his role in the defense of Calama during the War of the Pacific in the late 19th century. He is best known for his bravery and leadership during the first military confrontation between Bolivia and Chile in 1879, which ultimately led to Bolivia losing its coastal territory. Abaroa's legacy is honored annually on March 23rd, known as the Día del Mar, a day when Bolivians commemorate their historical claims to the Pacific coastline.
