Eduardo Marchesi

Eduardo Marchesi is a prominent Uruguayan botanist, recognized for his contributions to the understanding of plant species in the region. He received an honorary doctorate from the Faculty of Agronomy at the University of the Republic in 2022, highlighting his expertise in botany. Marchesi has been particularly noted for his estimations regarding the introduction of the jacarandá tree to Montevideo around the early 1900s, attributing its cultivation to the efforts of French landscaper Carlos Thays.
