Eldar Chenguelaïa
Eldar Chenguelaïa, born on January 26, 1933, in Tbilissi, was a prominent Georgian filmmaker known for his critical and humanistic portrayal of the Soviet system. He was part of the third generation of Georgian filmmakers and created notable works such as 'L'Exposition extraordinaire' (1969) and 'Les Montagnes bleues' (1983), the latter being a satirical metaphor for the collapse of the USSR. His films often combined caustic humor with poignant social commentary, contributing significantly to the evolution of Georgian cinema. After 1989, he shifted to documentary filmmaking to reflect the societal changes in Georgia, and he later ventured into politics as a deputy in 1995, advocating for the preservation of Georgian cinematic heritage. Eldar Chenguelaïa passed away on August 4, 2025.
