Elena Flavia Iulia Helena, commonly known as Saint Helena, was the mother of Emperor Constantine the Great. Born in the province of Bithynia, she is best known for her pious devotion and for her role in the discovery of the True Cross in Jerusalem. Helena is also credited with commissioning several significant churches, including the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
