Eliza Monroe Hay

Eliza Monroe Hay was the daughter of James Monroe, the fifth President of the United States. She lived a tumultuous life, marked by personal struggles and financial difficulties, and died in Paris in 1840, largely forgotten by history. Once perceived as a black sheep of her family, recent research has revealed her commitment to her family and her attempts to secure a legacy for her grandchildren, ultimately leading to efforts to repatriate her remains to Virginia.
