Elizabeth Bisland
Elizabeth Bisland was an accomplished American journalist and author who is best remembered for her race against fellow journalist Nellie Bly to travel around the world in 1889. Writing for the magazine 'The Cosmopolitan,' Bisland's journey, which took her in the opposite direction to Bly's, exemplified the spirit of exploration and adventure of her time. Although she ultimately finished her journey in 76 days, falling short of Bly's record, Bisland's literary contributions and her role in this historic competition have secured her place in the annals of journalism and women's history.
