Elizabeth Freeman

Elizabeth Freeman, also known as Mumbet, was an enslaved African American woman who became a pivotal figure in the abolition of slavery in Massachusetts. Her landmark legal victory in the case of Brom and Bett v. Ashley helped to establish the principle that all men are born free and equal, significantly contributing to the state's movement toward emancipation.
