Elpidio Báez

Elpidio Báez is a Dominican politician who served as the director of the Civil Defense during the devastating Hurricane George in 1998, where he controversially assured the public that the storm would not pose a significant threat. Following the hurricane, he transitioned into a political career, being elected as a deputy for the first time in 2002 and subsequently re-elected four more times, continuing to serve until 2024, when he sought re-election again.
