Empedocles

Empedocles was a pre-Socratic Greek philosopher and poet known for his cosmological theory that proposed all matter is composed of four root elements: earth, water, air, and fire. He is also noted for introducing the concept of forces, Love and Strife, that bring elements together and apart, influencing later philosophical thought.
