Emperor Claudius II, also known as Claudius Gothicus, was a Roman emperor who ruled from 268 to 270 AD. He is noted for his military campaigns and for the controversial decision to ban marriages for young men, believing that single men made better soldiers. His opposition to Saint Valentine ultimately led to the priest's martyrdom and the establishment of Valentine's Day.
