Engelbert Mveng was a prominent Cameroonian Jesuit priest, theologian, and historian, known for his critical stance against colonialism and neo-colonialism. Born on May 9, 1930, in Enam-Ngal, he became the first Cameroonian Jesuit priest after his ordination in 1963. Mveng was an influential scholar, having earned advanced degrees in theology and history, and authored numerous works that contributed significantly to African intellectual discourse. He co-founded a religious congregation inspired by African values, the Béatitudes, and dedicated his life to educating the youth of Africa, advocating for true decolonization. Tragically, he was assassinated on April 22, 1995, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire many.
