Erich Bachem was a German engineer best known for designing the Bachem Ba 349 Natter, a vertical take-off rocket-powered interceptor during World War II. His innovative approach aimed to counter the heavy Allied bombers that were beyond conventional anti-aircraft defenses. The Natter was notable for its simplicity and rapid production capabilities, primarily constructed from wood and requiring minimal pilot training, as pilots would only control the aircraft in the final moments before attack.
