Erik Wieërs

Erik Wieërs is a Belgian architect and professor at the University of Antwerp, recognized globally for his contributions to sustainable urban development. He has been instrumental in advocating for inclusive city designs that address complex urban challenges. Recently, he visited Bogotá, Colombia, where he highlighted the city's urgent need for affordable housing, green spaces, and a comprehensive master plan to guide its growth. Wieërs emphasizes the importance of integrating residential, commercial, and recreational spaces to create vibrant neighborhoods. As the head of the Provincial Government of Flanders since 2020 and a member of the architecture collective Collectief Noord, he continues to influence urban renewal efforts in Belgium.
