Esteban Brenes Granados is a 38-year-old heavy machinery operator from Orosi, Costa Rica, who made headlines after discovering mastodon remains over 10,000 years old while on a walk by the river. His keen interest in geology and natural formations led him to notice unusual bones, which he later identified as belonging to megafauna through research and collaboration with experts. Esteban chose to donate his find to the National Museum of Costa Rica, emphasizing the importance of cultural heritage over personal gain, and sees this significant discovery as a legacy for his children.
